Norse Marvel Reading Order

Most of these titles are available on Marvel Unlimited.  This list is ordered by release date, meaning some titles may overlap or contradict in odd ways.  That’s Marvel for you.  You get used to it.  This list contains comics which feature the entirety of Norse Marvel.  I am working on a system to mark which character feature prominently in each issue.  Once completed, I will begin working on lists for individual characters, as well as condensed lists for good starting points.

The Marvel continuity exists on a sliding timeline.  Comics that are released today happen more or less at the time of release.  Older comics happen no more than 10-15 years ago, unless explicitly stated otherwise.  The stuff released in the 60s happened 10-15 years ago, just like the stuff in the 90s happened 10-15 years ago.  Fixed points, such as WWII remain fixed, making Steve Rogers progressively more and more of a fossil as the story goes on.  He may have originally been thawed in the 60s, but now he was thawed much more recently than that (usually).   It takes some getting used to, but most titles release once a month, and often with gaps even longer between issues.  An arc may take six months in publishing time to get through, but only take place over two or three days.

Dates are therefore only provided as reference for locating these comics on various apps, and should not be taken as notation for when a given issue takes place.  Dates refer to the year the first issue of a given title or volume was published.  Volume numbers are based off of information on the unofficial Marvel wiki, and is best used as supplementary information.  The official Marvel apps use the dates in parentheses to organise series.  These lists are curated using a combination of the unofficial Marvel wiki, Marvel Unlimited, and Marvel.com.  Information for upcoming titles largely comes from solicits and previews, and is subject to change.

Comics are included on this list if they contain at least one Norse character in a role where their face is visible.  Norse characters, for the purposes of this list are those who were either 1. born in one of the other realms of Yggdrasil, 2. a recurring human character who was first introduced in a Norse title, and whose story is mostly relevant to Norse titles, or 3. some vague combination of the previous two.  This means that you will find titles that list “unnamed frost giant” or similar as the only character.  These titles are included because while the character may not be relevant to anything, the story in this particular issue is relevant.

Siege and War of the Realms

This is mostly relevant to Siege and War of the Realms, as these events were Asgard-centric, but it may apply to other events as well.  The masterlist is limited onto to characters fitting the above criteria, which does mean some context for large events will be missing.  For these events, I will be putting together more in-depth reading lists that go beyond the scope of Norse involvement.  As Siege especially had a lot of moving parts outside of Asgard, these lists will contain titles that have nothing to do with Asgard or any Norse characters directly.  Dark Reign and the Cabal are both smaller events that later gave greater context to Siege.  These lists are included for people who are really into the deep lore, and want to see all of the moving parts to the event.
