Rec notes: In a lot of ways, this fic reminds me of Trickster God, which I didn’t expect going in. If you wanted to read that one, but it was a bit too heavy and in your face about the themes, SolainRhyo’s fic might be more your speed. It deals with a lot of the same themes, but much less directly, and plays up the romance angle without subversion. Jane is broken, abandoned, and utterly reliant on Loki for safety. When he falls to Earth, and she’s the only person who can help him, things very quickly go off the rails. And it explores this while also asking the question that gets asked in the MCU once or twice: Where the fuck is Thor when anyone needs him? And why does he think he can just show back up and everything will go back to normal?
Loki is deranged, unhinged, and utterly self-serving through this entire thing. Jane is bitter and resentful and pissed off enough with everyone else’s bullshit that somehow Loki seems like the best option for her. And when her options are Loki, or get thrown in jail forever, well. For some reason it’s always Loki, isn’t it? Even when he’s horrible and cruel, and just the worst person in the galaxy. It’s still always Loki.
