Summary: It’s not that Asgard doesn’t have sweets.
It wasn’t that Asgard was lacking for sweet treats. Grapes and berries and apples grew in abundance across the realm, and countless times Loki had snuck into the kitchens to watch the servants make boiled honey drops, stealing them from the sheets of waxed parchment as soon as they were cool enough to touch.
But from the first time he encountered a bar of chocolate on Midgard, honey drops and grapes quickly lost their appeal. Sour lemon drops and peanut butter cups were available all year, never out of season or in short supply. Peppermint and butterscotch could be purchased for pennies, and stored away for as long as one could resist eating the entire bag.
Even the sweets the elves ate often seemed mild in contrast. Elvish cakes and nectars had always been a decadent treat before double chocolate cake, Bavarian cream, custard, and buttercream. Fizzy sodas and neon orange drinks that were cloyingly thick made even the sweetest wines and meads taste bitter in comparison.
If a flavour-blased Goldfish would kill a medieval peasant, then a Murphy’s Law sour Warheads jello shot would surely send an elf to another plane of existence entirely.
